摘要

《西药略释》是晚清时期美国医学传教士嘉约翰等译介并传入中国的第一部大型系统介绍西药学的专著。文章通过分析《西药略释》第三版（1886）的“总论”部分，探究其中所构建的西药知识体系。该体系由药物的基础理论和技术应用两大部分构成，囊括了致病论、生理学、解剖学、药动学、药效学、疗效评价与监测、药物合成与制备技术，乃至用药者的医德医风等诸多方面。这一西药知识体系的构建以当时新兴科学与技术为基础，信而有征，易于理解和接受，丰富了国人对西药的整体认知。

Abstract

Xiyao lüeshi

（

A Brief Exposition of Western Medicine

） is translated and introduced to China by American medical missionaries John Glasgow Kerr et al. during the late Qing Dynasty. It is the first large-scale monograph systematically introduced the western pharmacology. This paper explores the western pharmacological knowledge system it constructs by analyzing the “General Introduction” of

Materia Medica，

the third edition （1886） . The system consists of two main parts： the fundamental theories o

f medication and their technical applications. It encompasses various aspects， including theories of disease causation， physiology， anatomy， pharmacokinetics， pharmacodynamics， efficacy evaluation and monitoring， drug synthesis and preparation techniques， as well as medical ethics of the drug users. This construction of the western pharmacological knowledge system is based on the emerging sciences and technologies of that time， making it credible， understandable， and accessible， thereby enriching the Chinese people’s overall understanding of the western medicine.
