How is quantum mechanics reshaping our understanding of “reality” and “knowledge”
From a philosophical perspective, the century-long development of quantum mechanics can be divided into four stages. The first stage is from the birth of quantum mechanics to the establishment of the Copenhagen interpretation, which subverted deterministic views. The second stage is from the publication of the EPR argument to the proposal of Bell's inequality, which deepens the understanding of the nature of quantum mechanics. The third stage is the completion of experimental tests of Bell's inequality, which leads to a reversal in the philosophical consensus among physicists regarding “reality” and “knowledge”. Finally, based on advancements in quantum information science and technology, physicists have proposed an informational approach to understanding quantum reality, which argues that “reality and information are indistinguishable”, it is thus opening up new philosophical possibilities.
