From Quantum Bayesianism (QBism) to Phenomenology—a case study of the Wigner's friend thought experiment
After von Neumann proposed that the “wave function collapse” in quantum measurement might terminate at the observer's consciousness in the “observation chain”, Wigner introduced the “Wigner's friend” thought experiment, leading to a famous paradox. Quantum Bayesianism (QBism) argues that this paradox violates the “QBist Copernican principle”, asserting that Wigner cannot treat his friend as a subject fundamentally different from himself. This perspective aligns with the scenario in Merleau-Ponty's body phenomenology of “one hand touching the other”. Furthermore, from the perspective of computational phenomenology based on active inference, we provide a more concrete resolution to the “Wigner's friend” paradox.
